06. Fascinating Turkish Bath 魅惑のトルコ風呂

It was about one week ago though, I should mention about the Turkish Bath! Since I heard some story about it
in Japan, and everybody recommended it in Turkey, I have wanted to try. In Cappadocia, I could have the experience!
In the evening of the day I arrived in Cappadocia, Ken take us to Turkish Bath by car..... with Keiko who is on the same bus with me, Takako and Mayumi who walked around all the day and Shinya who is sitting next to us by chance.
Turkish Bath is a kind of a Sauna, plus washing scum and massage. You can take 1 hour to lie on the center stage, or wash your bodies.
We put some clothes on our body, and got into the bid sauna room. No surprise for boy-girls mixed! I bet this is one of the mystery of Turkish Bath!?
We were moved to the massage room by order, and got some washing scum and massage. In front of me, since Mayumi was shouting and feeling so good...... I couldn't wait for it. My turn came! Well, the big fat guy (like Fat Bustard) put bubbles in the bag, which is very smooth... and stroked it to my body with nasty smile!
...Well! Feeling good! Yesss, here! You got the right way!
Though the fat guy looked wired, my body got refreshed! Going back to the sauna room, I found Takako be in kind of ecstasy saying "Very Very good feeling...!" I guess I was looked same. Everybody got warmed, and Turkish Bath was great for the chilly Cappadocia night.
もう一週間程度経っているけど、やっぱりトルコ風呂の事は書いておかないとね。日本にいる時から噂では聞いていたけど、トルコに来るとみんなが勧めてくる。そんなにいいもんなら、やっぱり試さないと、と思っていたところ、とうとう、Cappadociaで行く事ができた。
Cappadociaについたその日の夕方、バスでいっしょになったケイコ、一日共に散策したタカコとマユミ、そして、たまたま一緒にいたシンヤ君と、Dream Cave Pensionのケンの車でトルコ風呂に向かった！
トルコ風呂は、ちょっとしたサウナのようなもので、さらに垢すりとマッサージが付いている。大体1時間くらいかけてゆっくり中央の台で寝そべったり、身体を洗ったりする。
僕らはそれぞれ与えられた布を身体に巻いて、大広間のサウナルームに入った。あたりまえだけど、混浴！でもなんか変な感じがしない。これもトルコ風呂の魔力？
僕らはサウナルームから順にマッサージルームへと移されて、垢すりとマッサージを受けた。僕の前のマユミが、マッサージでキャーキャー言いながら気持ちよくなってたのを見てたので、どんなものかと心待ちにしていた。いざ僕の番になると、デブのおっちゃんが、泡だらけの袋を僕の身体にあて、これがまたつるつるして気持ちいいんだけど、にぃーっって笑いながら体中をなでまわす！
およよ、気持ちいいぞ！おお！そこそこ！！その調子だ！
ちょっとおっちゃんが気持ち悪かったんだけど、おかげで体中がリフレッシュ！サウナルームに戻ると、タカコが「ほんと気持ちいいねー！」って恍惚してる。多分僕もそうだったんだろう。みんなの身体もぽかぽかで、寒いCappadociaの夜にはもってこいのトルコ風呂でした。

07. My favorite restaurant - Kusadasi お気に入りの食堂 - Kusadasi

In Turkey, since the tourism is one of the big position of their economy, the restaurant for tourist and for
native people seems to be different. Especially in this Kusadasi, as the European Resort, they close many restaurant in
season-off.
When I was walking the town of Kusadasi with a feeling of hungry, a restaurant jumped into my eyes. It remained quiet in the 2nd floor of closing shopping center, however I could find some native people playing card games.
Sitting down in the red-check patterned table, I ordered a soup and asking some discount as usual. Served soup was, yes, great! Chicken is cut into small pieces, and it made soup very deep taste. Best with bread! I was satisfied with it and served Chai in the end.
In the next day, I have some things I wanted to write in diary after walk, and hungry again in the evening. I went straight to the restaurant. I ordered soup plus peppers roll this time. Peppers roll is made of green pepper with fried rice. That was also wonderful made by the lady in the restaurant.
I could stay in the table more than one hour to write my diary, and talk with native people about our ages, or their shops... to feel their natural face. This is the flavor of traveling I wanna have.... never happen in the resort tour.
In the check out, the guy offered me as "You are ok for Turkish Price, not tourist price!". Thanks!!
トルコでは、観光が経済の重要な位置をしめている事もあって、観光客用レストランと、地元ッ子食堂がきっぱりと分かれている事が多い。特にここ、Kusadasiは、ヨーロピアンリゾートって事もあって、シーズンオフには店を閉めているレストランがほとんどだ。
そんなKusadasiの街をおなかを空かせて歩いていると、ひとつの食堂が目にとまった。そこは商店街の2階にあるひっそりとしたところだが、人々が店の前でゲームをしたりして、地元連中のたまり場になっていた。
赤のチェック柄のかわいいテーブルに腰をおろす。例によって、ケチんぼの僕はスープを値切って注文した。やってきたスープは、これがまたうまい！チキンが細かく刻まれていいコクを出していた。パンと一緒に食べると最高！結局チャイも出してくれて大満足だった。
次の日、街を歩き回ってどうしても日記帳に書きたい事があったのと、ちょうど夕方でおなかが空いていたのもあって、またその食堂へ顔を出してみた。同じ兄ちゃんにスープと、さらにペッパーロールを注文。それは、ピーマンの中に炒めたライスが包まれているもの。食堂のおばちゃん が作ったペッパーロールは最高だった！
食事後も1時間以上日記を書きながらそのテーブルに居座って、その後も地元ッ子と年齢の事や近くの商店の事などについて話をする事ができた。リゾートを求めて旅に出ていては決して知り合う事ができない現地の人々の表情を感じる事ができた。これこそ旅のウマミだな。
最後の支払いでは、兄ちゃんが、「ツーリスト価格じゃなくて、地元ッ子価格でいいよ」と言ってサービスしてくれた。サンキュー！！

08. Gypsy Town ジプシーの町

It takes like 1 or 2 minutes from the Kusadasi port to the hill in the back of a seaside downtown. After a super-steep
hill, the town shows the different face... it was one of the side of European Resort, Kusadasi.
Some days ago, I've walked up there. Feeling this town is kind of for lower-class people though, I've went around with interests. Suddenly, someone said to me "My Friend, Fuck Off!". It must have been the reality I haven't ever seen in the vacant tourism-business people.
The other day, I decided to go to the hill again! I was careful and trying not to mind if anything happened, so kind of relaxed. A girl gave me nuts with smile. Walking up peacefully, then a guy came to me and said with natural smile, "Do you want a girl?"
That bumping conversation made me laugh! But I declined softly and kept walking. Then around 20 guys yelled me from terrace as "Come here, come here!" I was a bit worried, but I believed my intuition. A guy said, "Welcome to gypsy town." Yes, it was the Turkish Gypsy town.
The so-called gypsy is the people living around Europe who travel around, originally from India. Do you know Gypsy's Warning? However, some gypsy make their own life with stealing.... bad image.
I could talk with the guy. He said, they are born here, and kept to live here. They don't like here, but it's not easy to get out here. Some people has job, but some doesn't. From his face, which seems to have vague complaints, I could feel their soul to survive this life by their all body....whether consciously or unconsciously.
By the way, the guy said there is another people, Kurd, in this hill, and I maybe said "Fuck Off!" by them... But I didn't care. A person just gave me a reason to come up to this hill with the abuse.
After the conversation, I walked around the town. Everyone had good faces. They are minority in the society though, their smiles are filled with the lively dynamics.
In the night I was leaving Kusadasi, I saw the night view of the hill from the bus for Istanbul. Each lights were shining slightly but strongly....just like that lights were telling me that Gypsy's lives keep on in the Gypsy Town.
Kusadasiの港から、海岸沿いに続く繁華街のちょうど裏手にあたる丘までの道のりは約1-2分。ずいぶん急なその坂を登りきると、今までの風景ががらりと変わってしまう。そこは、ヨーロッパリゾートの街が持つもうひとつの側面だった。
先日僕はその坂を登り、低所得者階級層の街である事を意識しながらも、ちょっとした好奇心で歩いていたら、突然住民に、「My friend, Fuck Off!(友達よ、出て行けよ！)」となじられた。うすうす感じていた観光客向けトルコ人の虚無感とは違う、リアリティーを見たような感じがした。
そこで、僕は改めてその丘に登ることにした。今度は覚悟を持って登っているから何が起きても平気だったため、余裕があった。だから近くを歩いていた女の子がどんぐりをくれたりと、和やかに登っていくと、一人の怪しい男が屈託ない笑顔で話し掛けてくる。「女の子、買わない？」
僕は、いきなりだったから笑っちゃった。丁寧に断ってそのまま坂道を進んでいくと、今度は上から20人くらいの男たちが「こっちへこいよー！」って上のテラスから呼びかけてくる。ちょっと心配だったけど、直感を信じてテラスへの階段を上る。英語が上手なその男は言った。「ジプシ ーの町へようこそ。」そこはトルコ人ジプシーの町だったのだ。
いわゆるジプシーとは、元はインドあたりから流れ出て、ヨーロッパ近辺に生活している放浪の民。ジプシーの占い師などは有名。ただ、窃盗で生計を立てている人たちもいたりと、何かとイメージがよくない。
僕はその男とゆっくり話ができた。彼らはここに生まれ、ここにずっと住んできた。この街が嫌いだが、家族がいるから出て行くことができないと言う。彼らは仕事をもっている人もいれば、まったくする事がない人もいるらしい。漠然とした不満を抱えているその表情からは、生きる事に 対して、（意識しているかは別にして）、身体ごとぶつかっている覚悟が感じる事ができた。
ところでその男が言うには、この丘には、クルド人も住んでいて、「Fuck Off」と言ったのは彼らのほうじゃないか、とも言っていた。でも、それはどうでもいい。一人の男がそう言い放ったから、僕はこうしてまた丘に戻って来る気になっただけだ。
その後、町をちょっと歩いてみた。みないい表情だ。社会的にはマイノリティーかもしれない。でも人々の笑顔は自然で躍動感に満ちていた。
Kusadasiを離れる夜、Istanbulへ向かうバスの窓から、遠くあの丘の夜景が見えた。派手ではないが、一つ一つの明かりがしっかりと灯っていた。僕は、ジプシーの民の生活がそこに営まれている事を訴えかけているような気がしてならなかった。

09. New Age of Turkey トルコの新しい時代

Turkey had a country-wide election on 3rd of November. New party called AKP (AK Party) won big with around 34%
parliament post, 15% difference with no.2. AKP is Islamic political party directed by the ex-Istanbul mayor Erdogan, who
developed this Istanbul to be Europeanized, but because of his religious fundamentalism, he got in jail for 3 months for
the punishment of singing religious song.... Now his AKP promised joining to EU and development of human rights to world-standard.
Many Turkish people is pleased with it. I heard some people about the impression of election, and the only one person had not been satisfied. He mentioned about AKP's Islamic roots policy. I read an interview of Erdogan, however, saying AKP was changing to middle-bit-right rather than left nor right. That result is this victory.
Erdogan is not likely to be the prime minister though, he is promised to become the man who leads Turkey to the new age. For me, I'm OK if everyone in Turkey will be happy. I really don't know if they can join to EU soon, I hope Turkish people's life get better. I'm honor to be a witness of changing Turkey.
By the way, I cannot forget Turkish people's interests in politics. Young guys taught me political details in their country. I asked why they are so familiar, answered "Because politics control our life." .... well, that's right:)
11月3日にトルコは国を挙げての選挙が行われた。その選挙で、新政党AKPは2位に15%近くの差をつけ、34%もの国会議席獲得をもって大勝利した。AKPは前イスタンブル市長エルドガンが代表を務めるイスラム教政党。イスタンブルのヨーロッパ化を大々的に行ったが、イスラム色が強く、なん かの歌を歌ったとの事で、3ヶ月も刑務所に入れられた事がある。そんな彼の政党AKPはトルコのEU加盟と、人権の世界標準化などを掲げ、見事第１党の座についた。
とにかく多くのトルコ人は喜んでいる。何人もの人に選挙結果の印象を聞いてみた。その中では一人だけしか不満の声をあげていない。その彼は、AKPがイスラムルーツの政党だから気に入らないのだと言う。でも、エルドガンのインタビューを読むと、AKPは左翼でも右翼でもなく、まんなかちょい右といった所に変わろうとしてきた。その結果が今回の選挙の勝利なんだろう。

In this Ramadan season, they have festival to midnight in SultanAhmet (Blue Mosk) for a month.
Turkish people think everyone is their friend. The relationship seems to be closer. Guys kiss to their cheeks when they meet. I could see many guys holding their arms in walking.
Hammam, I described in my diary you know, is introduced as the gay place in Time Out Magazine. That's why the Fat Bustard was strange.
I heard some Japanese girls sleep with Turkish guys... but they told me "I love Japanese girl, but I don't wanna get married with the girl who sleeps easily with me." Well, remember it's just a play!
I hardly lost my way cause they tell me the right way anytime.
The carpet shop for tourists invite us saying "Come to my shop and have a tea!". Then they try to persuade us to buy their carpet. Every carpet shop says same thing.... I hope they use their head and make the new way.

ラマダンのこの時期、Sultan Ahmet(Blue Mosk)では、夜中までお祭りが続く。ラマダンの一ヶ月間ずっと行われているそうだ。
トルコ人は誰でもカンでも、友達だと思ってる。確かに人間同士の親密感が強い。男同士でも、会った時に頬キスを交わしている。男たちが手を組んで歩いている事もしょっちゅうだ。
日記にも書いたトルコ風呂（ハマム）は、Time Outマガジンでは、Gayの集い場として紹介されていた。だから、マッサージのデブは怪しかったんだね。
トルコ人の男にだまされて、一夜の恋に落ちる日本人女性の話をよく聞くが、男たちは「日本人の女の子は好きだけど、すぐ寝るような日本人とは結婚したくない。」と本音を語る。ま、お互い割り切って遊んでくれ。
トルコでは、ほとんど道に迷う事がない。なぜなら、誰かに聞けば絶対道を教えてくれる。
観光客向け絨毯屋は、必ず、「まあ、チャイでも飲んでいきなよ」って誘ってくる。その後、絨毯を買わせるために口説き始めるのだ。みんな同じ手を使うからもう少し頭を使って新たな手法を考えてほしい。
トルコの新聞には、ヨーロッパ風セクシーなタレントの写真がいっぱい載っている。以外に性にオープンなのかもね。
